    This sectionfocuses on starting an online community.

    The passage tellsus an unemployed female teacher in her fifties who not only uses the Internetto change her life, but also helps other old people learn to use the Internet.The Internet is the greatest invention of the 20th century, which has broughtgreat changes to the society. But some people are unable to access the Internetfor various reasons. There is a so-called "digital divide" betweenpeople: not being able to connect to the Internet means not being able to sharewith each other.


    While teaching, the teachershould stress some reading strategies. For example, the teacher explains to thestudents that listing examples are common ways of writing. We can remindstudents to pay attention to the internal relationship between examples inreading and understand how the author explains the main idea of the articlethrough examples. Besides, the use of mind map can also help students tostructure the fragmented text information, help students to clear the structureof the article, and grasp the context of the article, thus improving thequality and efficiency of students reading comprehension.

    3. Help Ss learn some basic reading skills, such as prediction, summaryand so on.

    Step 1: Warming up and prediction

    Read headlines

    Headlines usually include not only key ideas or information from the text. They often do not follow strict grammar rules, because writers use as few words as possible to catch the attention of the readers.

    Paragraph 5.Jan’s life has beengreatly improved by the Internet.

    Step 5: Critical thinking:

    (1)How do you arrange your time spent on study and the Internet? Is it reasonable?

    I usually surf the Internet using my mobile phone for only an hour afterclass, and it is reasonable for me.

    (2)What are your online activities? Are they safe?

    I chat with my friends, read news and play games. I never give away myprivate information so I think they are safe.
