    Listening and Speaking introduces thetopic of “ask about online habits”.

    Many middle schoolstudents have been surfing the Internet for many years, but what they do withthe Internet and how much time they spend every day may not be very clear tothemselves, nor to other students. This section allows students to investigatetheir peers Internet use, which is conducive to their mutual understanding andunderstanding of the Internet. It can also help them reflect on their ownonline behavior, learn from other peoples good online habits, and get rid oftheir bad online behavior.


    The listening textof this section is an investigation interview. The investigators interviewspecific groups with the same questions to obtain information, so as tounderstand their views, practices or attitudes on this issue. There are twospecific questions: “how much time do you spend online every day? What do youusually do online?”. The answers of thethree respondents provide rich and different information, and achieve thepurpose of the investigators. The oral discourse structure of survey interviewsgenerally includes greeting and explaining the purpose of the interview,presenting the interview questions and the respondents answers.

    Listening andTalking introduces the theme of “choosing the right application ". Listening text is a conversation between Lauraand Xiao Bo. In this part of listening, “oink”; “piggy bank” may cause the studentshearing comprehension limitation. Oink refers to sound word and pigs sound.So, add some oink to my piggy bank is often used to describe "making alittle money".

    1. Guide students to understand the content of listening texts in termsof listening for definitions.

    2. Cultivate students ability to define words and understand aninvestigation interview.

    3. Instruct students to use functional sentences of the dialogue such as“"how much time do you spend online every day? What do you usually doonline?" and so on to maintain the conversation appropriately.

    4. Enable students to naturally use the functional and notional items ofthis unit to express their guess, expectation or belief.

    Part 1: Listening and Speaking

    Step 1: Lead in

    The teacher isadvised to talk with the meaning of the sentence in the opening page

    Boys and girls,before our listening, let’s work in pairs and discuss:

    The internet is becoming the town square forthe global village of tomorrow.

    How do youunderstand the sentence?

    Listen for definitions

    When you hear a word you dont know, pay attention to the next sentence or two to see if there is a definition.

    Definitions often begin with words like “ its like; that is”, or “for example.”
